Putin: Joint Russia-Iran-Turkey effort on Syria, fruitful
Russian President Vladimir Putin said here that the efforts jointly made by Russia, Iran and Turkey to settle the Syrian crisis 'are paying off.'
'The level of violence has decreased in the country [Syria],' President Putin was quoted by a Russian news channel as saying after the Monday meeting with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the southernmost part of Russia Sochi.
'I would like to note with satisfaction that our joint work with Turkey and Iran as guarantors of the ‘Astana process’ continues to yield concrete results.
'The level of violence has certainly decreased and favorable conditions are being created for promoting intra-Syrian dialogue under the auspices of the UN,' Putin told reporters as Russia Today (RT) reported.
Since March 2011, Syria has been suffering from unrest and terrorist acts.
Several rounds of talks have been held on Syria in Astana, Kazakhstan, since January 2017.
Iran, Russia and Turkey are the initiators of ceasefire in Syria and Astana talks.
