Deputy Foreign Minister in Moscow to discuss syria
Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari arrived in Moscow on Tuesday for meetings with Russian officials as part of regular bilateral consultations on cooperation to help end the six-year-old Syria war.
He was due to sit down with his Russian counterpart, Mikhail Bogdanov, and Russia’s Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin.
Tehran and Moscow have forged a strong alliance in recent years in support of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to dislodge terrorist groups from the war-torn Arab country.
Turkey, a backer of militants fighting Assad, joined the two late last year to help revive peace negotiations.
The trio has held five rounds of talks in Astana, with the latest on July 4-5. The next round is scheduled for late August in the Kazakh capital to follow up on discussions over creating four de-escalation zones in Syria.
