The secretary general of the Afghanistan National Welfare Party has said that the assassination of Ayman al-Zawahiri by the U.S. wasn’t possible without Taliban cooperation.

The assassination of Ayman al-Zawahiri and several members of the central staff of Al-Qaeda as well as the Taliban had been on the CIA's agenda from the past, Mohammad Hossein Jafari said in remarks to ILNA, adding that “but the point is that they eliminated him in Kabul, and this shows that if it were not for the cooperation of the Taliban with the United States, such an action would not have taken place at all.”

The U.S. forces have apparently left Afghanistan, but they are working deeply in this country, and in my opinion, the presence of the Taliban in Afghanistan will not last long based on the current situation and Washington's behavior, he noted.

Al-Qaeda is now in doubt after Zawahiri's assassination and they don't know whether the Taliban and Haqqani were helping America in this operation or not, he said, adding that it is possible that al-Qaeda will become more radical and may even cooperate with ISIS, but the main victims will still be the Afghan people.
