A former Iranian diplomat has said that the aim of Russian military moves in Ukraine is to strengthen its influence in the Black Sea region.
The diplomat, Afshar Soleimani who served as Iran’s ambassador to Azerbaijan, told ILNA that Russia has started to foment crises in its “near overseas.”
The former ambassador pointed out that there are two reasons behind this policy: first, Russia wants to confront pro-Western sentiments, second Russia wants to send a warning message to former Soviet territories that establishing relations with the west not only will not be good for them but also will come at a great cost to them.
