Mikati trip to Riyadh aims to discover Saudi priorities in Lebanese elections: expert
The former Iranian representative to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation believes that Lebanon's prime minister is seeking to consolidate the position of Al-Mustaqbal faction with Saudi Arabia.
Referring to the upcoming visit of Lebanon's prime minister to Saudi Arabia, Sabah Zangeneh said, “Saudi Arabia has lost Saad Hariri as its great ally in the Lebanese Sunni community.”
the former Iranian representative at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation said in remarks to ILNA that Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati’s visit to Saudi Arabia on the eve of Lebanon’s elections can’t be a normal and natural one.
“Undoubtedly, Mikati is seeking to consolidate the position of Al-Mustaqbal faction with Saudi Arabia,” he added.
He concluded that, in his visit to Saudi Arabia, Mikati may ask for a Saudi deposit in Lebanese banks. “This investment can affect the Lebanon elections,” the expert noted.
Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati said on Monday that he will visit Saudi Arabia during the holy month of Ramadan.
