Zarif again challenges US claims to extend Iran's arms embargo
Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Javad Zarif, in a video message on Twitter on Saturday night entitled "In their own words" raised the question: Does the United States can invoke UN Security Council Resolution 2231 as a party to Iran's nuclear deal?
The video includes remarks by US President Donald Trump, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, former White House National Security Adviser John Bolton, and US Special Representative for Iran Brian Hook.
In the video, Zarif referred to the failure of the US effort to pass a resolution against Iran and the extension of the arms embargo, and the opposition of 13 members of the UN Security Council to US pressure to reinstate sanctions on Iran.
Media reports such as CNN and the Wall Street Journal about the rejection of the proposed US resolution and the New York Times report on US isolation are all mentioned in the video.
Zarif also quoted a part of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace note as saying: "When Trump withdrew from the agreement with Iran (known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action or JCPOA), he decided not to use the trigger mechanism to return all the sanctions suspended in the nuclear deal."
At the end of this video message, there is a reference to Pompeo about the CIA.
