US to witness another global support at UN meeting: Iranian diplomat
Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Majid Takht Ravanchi says the US will hear once again the world supporting the July 2015 nuclear deal at the UN Security Council meeting on Tuesday.
In his remarks, the ambassador underlined that the US effort to extend arms embargo against Iran is in complete contradiction with the UN Resolution 2231.
Resolution 2231 (2015) urges full implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the timetable set by the Deal and sets forth the next steps for the eventual removal of Security Council sanctions on Iran.
The international community is after implementation of the JCPOA and following the Resolution 2231, the ambassador stressed, adding that the UN chief and many world leaders have repeatedly expressed their willingness to witness the implementation of the 2015 nuclear deal.
Such willingness indicates that the world is against the US stance on the issue, the senior diplomat noted.
Iran and the six world powers- US, UK, France, Russia, China, and Germany- signed a landmark nuclear agreement, aka JCPOA, on July 14, 2015, after months of intensive talks. But the US withdrew unilaterally from the deal on May 8, 2018, and imposed sanctions on Iran at the highest level of its kind.
About the US move to extend arms embargo o Iran, the top diplomat said it is an unprecedented event that a member of the UNSC acts against a resolution founded by itself.
By following such a move, the US is after causing chaos in the international order, he added.
Takht Ravanchi believes that the United States pursues annihilation of the JCPOA.
Ridiculously, the US claims that it is still a member of the 2015 deal and can re-impose sanctions on Iran based on the Resolution 2231, while all know that Washington is no longer the JCPOA participant, he stressed.
Speaking about the recent anti-Iran statement issued by three European countries, he said it was released while it had no legal base.
Experts believe that the recent statement of France, Germany, and the United Kingdom, also the IAEA resolution claiming that Iran has not had full cooperation and has not given access to two nuclear sites shows that this international body, instead of doing its natural duties of verification of data, has become a tool in the hands of the US and the Zionist regime, the only holder of nuclear weapons in western Asia.
Also on June 12, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said his country will not agree with the US move to make the UN approve the extension of arms embargo against Iran.
China will work with all relevant parties to safeguard the authority of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231 and the effectiveness of the JCPOA on the Iranian nuclear issue, China Global Television Network (CGTN) quoted Wang as saying.
UN Security Council is to hold an online meeting on Tuesday afternoon to review the latest situation of implementation of Resolution 2231.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif is to take part in the meeting.
