An official in Iran’s Interior Ministry said that the death of Afghan nationals on the border between Afghanistan and Iran has nothing to do with Iran’s border guards.
Speaking to ILNA news agency, the head of the Bureau for Aliens & Foreign Immigrants’ Affairs, Mahdi Mahmoudi said that the enemies seek to create tension between Iran and Afghanistan.
Referring to the rumors about the torture and drowning of a number of Afghan citizens in a shared border river (Harirod River) in Afghan territory by the border forces, he added “Although there are fundamental doubts about the accuracy of this claims and certainly, this incident has nothing to do with Iran’s border guards.”
Iran has extensive evidence that the incident has not happened on its borders. “According to the investigation, the citizens may have tried to enter the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran and drowned when they are crossing the difficult points of the river,” he confirmed.
Mahdi Mahmoudi pointed to the other incident involving Afghan citizens and adding that In the Yazd incident, some people have again committed human trafficking in violation of the law and the police, who reportedly shot at the vehicle after it failed to stop at a checkpoint.
