A US return to Iran’s deal would be a best choice; International Analyst
“A fresh start to diplomacy is the best solution to reduce tensions between Iran and the United States,” Political Science Professor of Colombia University Robert Y. Shapiro told ILNA.
Speaking to ILNA news agency, the former chair of the Department of Political Science at Columbia University added that the US must return to the Iran agreement to start to deal with issues related to that but that requires the Trump administration to change its approach or for a new president to take office.
“Trump and the US government are constantly talking about negotiating, but each day they are putting more threats against Iran so Tehran reduces its obligations in response to these threats.
U.S Professor refers to America's sanctions against Tehran and said “It is better for Trump to changes his strategy but it does help to frame this as a defeat. The coronavirus outbreak provides a possible opportunity for rethinking all international conflicts and the need for diplomacy and cooperation worldwide.
“This is a time to look for opportunities for international cooperation and relaxing directly harmful sanctions,” Shapiro confirmed.
Asked about how likely is a war between Iran and the US, Robert Shapiro said “They are very critical for the region but they are directly consequential for the US mainly regarding terrorism and nuclear proliferation.
Answering to question about can Europe continues to play a mediating role between Iran and the United States, the International Affairs Analyst said “You pose a good question. This raises the question of to what extent they are committed versus cooperating with the United States; and now with the virus crisis. “
