“JCPOA & INSTEX don't seem to have much to do with each other, and it's not so clear that the EU wants to "help" Iran until the fate of JCPOA becomes clear,” a Professor of Politics and Co-director of the Center for International affairs told ILNA.

Ronnie D. Lipschutz who focuses on Regional Studies at the University of California said “I have never thought that Iran was planning to build nuclear weapons to challenge Israel, but having the capability to build them is, under the circumstances, probably advisable.”

He added that JCPOA was entirely unnecessary and was put together to address domestic demands by U.S. hawks and Republicans to attack and sanction Iran (also about domestic politics).

“Trump withdrew the U.S. to make hawks and Republicans happy, not because he has many ideas of what it entailed or what the risks might be.  In other words, it was an American ploy and may well be dead.”

He said "I have never thought that Iran was planning to build nuclear weapons to challenge Israel, but having the capability to build them is, under the circumstances, probably advisable."

Referring to the consequences of the assassination of the commander of the Iranian Corps, he told “this action was absolutely illegal, even under U.S. policy. Trump has been engaging in a series of distractions from the impeachment and trial proceedings, but the decision to assassinate seems to have been based more on how he was feeling at the time.

He pointed to Trump's election pledges was to withdraw US troops from the Middle East and confirmed that I also don't think he will be able to completely withdraw troops, although depending on what happens in Iraq, those might leave.

“Trump's so-called Peace Plan will render Israel even more vulnerable and I give it a low probability of surviving intact into the 22nd century."

He added “Trump's foreign policy is incompetent, thoughtless, dangerous and stupid--if there is a "foreign policy" as such.  I do think the U.S. needs to stop meddling in the affairs of other countries and wind down the 700-odd bases it has around the world.  I rather doubt Trump could find Ukraine on Pompeo's map.
