Iran to begin enrichment at Fordow site with its fourth incremental step
After a hiatus of almost five years, the centrifuges are spinning at the Fordow site once again, enriching uranium, and delivering a message to the world that Iran relies solely on its own resources, manpower, and abilities, and does not trust the West.
After the failure of the three European countries to honour their commitments under The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), with the Europeans effectively unable or unwilling to do business with Iran and protect the country's economy from the US unilateral sanctions, made Iran to pressed ahead with the fourth incremental step, and restarted its uranium enrichment activities at the Fordow site.
As Iranian officials have pointed out, the reason for taking the fourth step is to encourage other signatories of JCPOA to honour their commitments under the deal, and to highlight the importance of a balance between rights and commitments of all signatories to the agreement.
European countries should not expect Iran to be the only side committed to its obligations under the JCPOA. They must fulfill their commitments as well.
