SABITI oil tanker enters Iranian territorial waters

The National Iranian Tanker Company confirmed on Monday that SABITI oil tanker which had been attacked in the Red Sea two weeks ago has now entered Iranian territorial waters.

According to the National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC), SABITI oil tanker, returned home on Monday and will dock in the southern Kharg Island in two days to unload its cargo and undergo technical and security checks.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said last week that the tanker had been hit by at least two rockets, and there is video footage of the incident.

The attack was undoubtedly carried out by a government and there would be consequences, Iranian President Rouhani said last week.

In addition, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Sunday the Islamic Republic would not accuse any government of involvement in an attack on the SABITI oil tanker until a thorough investigation has been completed into the incident, but that it was possible that one or more governments may have been involved.

On Friday morning 11 Oct. the Iranian oil tanker, SABITI, was attacked in the Red Sea off the coast of Saudi Arabia, near the port city of Jeddah. There were no reports of injuries as a result of the attack, but oil did spill into the Red Sea.
