The California professor in an interview with ILNA talked about US-Iran relations and said "Iran nuclear deal was pretty positive in light of the broad-ranging support for the agreement from US allies."

Speaking to ILNA news agency, John Woolley who is Professor of Political Science at UC Santa Barbara and Co-Director of the American Presidency Project website added "but Trump believed that some better agreement should have been reached."

"I don't think it would be a rational move for either country to let things get to that war point, but these days it seems to me that a lot of people are not consistently rational."

Asked about European efforts to maintain trade with Iran, he said I expect states basically to do things that benefit them and their interests. So any country with significant mutually beneficial trade will have political reasons to protect that.

Answering to question about Iran and the Taliban relations, Woolley said I don’t really know much about talks between Iran and Taliban. The US has talked to the Taliban. One thing President Trump and I do agree about is that it's a useful thing to talk to people you are in conflict with.

Referring to US elections, the political analyst said "In most situations the political future of national leaders is determined by domestic forces; historically in the US voters have not been very knowledgeable about many policy and foreign policy issues, and they are not a big factor in voting in elections."
