An Iranian lawmaker said Iran has the responsibility for securing the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf.

Talking to ILNA news agency, a Member of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Mohammad Mahdi Broumandi said that Iran has control over the region and has always sought to maintain security. In fact, the presence of trans-regional forces has created problems for countries in the region.

The U.S. has blamed Iran for attacks on oil tankers in the region in recent months, a charge Tehran has denied. In July, Iran seized the British-flagged Stena Impero tanker, a move widely viewed as retaliation for the detention of an Iranian tanker in the British overseas territory of Gibraltar. It also detained an Emirati-based tanker and accused it of smuggling fuel.

“Capture of the Iranian oil tanker based on fabricated excuses but British ship had broken “international rules” and Iran is dealing with any violation,” he added.

The lawmaker refers to Iran next step to reduce its commitments under the 2015 nuclear deal, known as JCPOA and said “JCPOA is an international agreement and it is approved by the Security Council. Iran fully implements its obligations under the accord but our counterparts have not fulfilled their commitments.”

“The Europeans just say, "We're sorry" and "America has not done well and is doing wrong" but that is no longer enough for us and all parties must meet their commitments.”

Iran is set to further cut its commitments to its international nuclear deal unless its European partners move to protect it from U.S. sanctions by ensuring it can sell oil and receive income, its foreign minister told state television on Wednesday.

Iranian official called the reduction of Iran's commitments under the nuclear deal as an “unchangeable strategy” that "will be continued in line with Articles 26 and 36 of the JCPOA until the full realization of Iran’s rights.”
