A proposed bill designed to improve the transparency of Iranian government and to ensure 'a healthy economy', known as the transparency bill, has been passed on by Iranian president to the parliament (Majlis) for further consideration and debate.

The transparency bill was approved in a cabinet meeting on Wednesday 15 May 2019, and was forwarded to the Majlis by President Hassan Rouhani on Saturday 22 June 2019.

The proposed bill has 36 articles and deals with economic, political, social and cultural aspects of transparency in government. Transparency is an important yardstick for measuring the performance of any government, and it is generally agreed that the public has a right to know how their government spends their taxes.

The index of transparency measures how much the general public is aware of how their government actually works and how their taxes are spent.

Transparency inspires confidence -- the more transparent a government, the more trust and confidence the public will have in that government. Transparency is also essential for fighting corruption and fraud within the government bureaucracy.
