Iran's official urges ratifying FATF to overcome pressures
An Iranian member of parliament quoted Iran Deputy Foreign Minister for political affairs Abbas Araqchi as urging ratification of the bills related to Financial Action Task Force (FATF) to overcome sanctions.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Mehrdad Lahouti referred to Araqchi's remarks on recent Warsaw summit.
He quoted Araqchi as saying that though US was after forming an anti-Iran consensus by engineering the Warsaw summit, just about 79 countries attended the event in low-level delegations.
He added that just 23 countries participated in the event in ministerial level while the rest participants were ambassadors.
US had earlier announced in its invitations that the meeting is to discuss Iran but it changed the theme to Middle East when found out that the first topic may not be welcomed by other countries, Araqchi had noted.
In spite of changing the summit's topic, some countries stood against US and consequently the summit faced failure and the US could not even release its final statement.
Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Java Zarif had said the United States is after hiding its isolation behind Warsaw circus.
“As Iran, Russia & Turkey ready a summit in Sochi to work for peace in Syria & UN Court rejects US excuses & readies to rule on US theft of Iranian people’s assets, flip-flopping Trump officials try to hide their perpetual lawlessness & global isolation behind a charade in Warsaw,” Zarif tweeted on February 13.
Iran has condemned a Middle East meeting, that is set to be held in Poland, as a US effort to hijack the forum and criticize Iran and pursue in own malicious intentions.
