Sahand destroyer joins Iran’s naval fleet
Home-made destroyer, Sahand joined the fleet of the Iranian Navy on Saturday morning in a ceremony held at Bandar Abbas with the Commander of The Iranian Army chief, Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi and Navy Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi and in attendance.
Sahand is the third destroyer produced as part of the Mowj (Wave) project, Iran Press reported.
Iranian military experts and technicians have in recent years made great headways in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment, making the armed forces self-sufficient in the arms sphere.
In recent years, Iran’s naval forces have increased their presence in international waters to secure naval routes and protect merchant vessels and oil tankers against pirates.
