EU foreign policy chief, Iran FM meet in New York
EU Foreign Policy chief Federica Mogherini met with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in New York on Monday.
Mogherini came to Iranian foreign minister’s hotel on Monday morning local time to discuss the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) – Iran nuclear deal – and the upcoming foreign ministerial meeting of Iran and G4+1.
In the beginning of the meeting, Ms. Mogherini condoled with Zarif over the recent terrorist attack in the southwestern Iranian city of Ahvaz.
The Iranian foreign minister, for his part, described Ahvaz terrorist attack as horrible, financially supported by foreign countries.
Foreign Minister Zarif was accompanied by his deputy on political affairs Abbas Araqchi, while Helga Schmid, the deputy of Ms. Mogherini was also present at the meeting.
The Iranian foreign minister arrived in New York on Sunday along with President Hassan Rouhani to attend in the 73rd UN General Assembly session.
A joint JCPOA foreign ministerial commission session is to be held on the sidelines of the event on Monday night local time.
