UN Chief condemns Iran terror strike
The United Nations Secretary General António Guterres in a statement on Saturday denounced the terrorist attack in the Iranian southwestern city of Ahvaz.
'The Secretary-General condemns the attack today in Iran’s southwestern city of Ahvaz, which reportedly left many dead, including children,' Stephane Dujarric, Spokesman for Secretary-General quoted Guterres as saying in a statement released in UN Secretary General website on Saturday.
'He expresses his condolences to the families of the victims and to the Government and people of Iran. He wishes those injured a speedy recovery,' the statement reads.
At least 25 people were killed and more than 60 others injured during Saturday morning terror attack in Ahvaz, capital of Khuzestan Province.
“The terrorists disguised as the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) and Basiji (volunteer) forces opened fire at the authorities and people from behind the stand during the parade,' Governor of Khuzestan Gholam-Reza Shariati said.
The self-proclaimed Saudi-affiliated Al-Ahwaz terrorist group claimed the responsibility for the attack.
