EU back nuclear deal regardless of U.S. decision; Iran ex-ambassador
A former Iran ambassador said that European countries want to maintain Iran nuclear deal because in that case they will maintain international peace and security.
Abdolreza farajirad, Iran’s former ambassador to Norway and Hungary added ''United States called for a Security Council meeting to intensify the pressure on Iran but European countries draw up their own agenda and announced to the world that the deal is still ongoing and Iran's domestic issues do not have an effect on the continued implementation of the nuclear deal (JCPOA)."
The US administration has done a great deal in the past year to cancel the JCPOA. Although the international Atomic Energy Agency has confirmed Iran's commitment to the deal eight times, the US President Donald Trump didn’t confirm Iran's commitment and sent the deal to the Congress to be decided on.
Iran’s top nuclear official said Monday that his country might rethink its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency if President Donald Trump scrapped American participation in the 2015 agreement limiting Iranian nuclear activities.
"The time of US government's decision to extend the suspension of nuclear sanctions is near but Europeans continue to talk for maintaining and sustaining America's presence, as they did three months ago'' farajirad said.
He added that economic relations for Europe are not important and the main reason behind this support is political and security issues.
