Iran to re-open its common border with Iraqi Kurdistan Region
Iran will re-open Bashmaq-Marivan common border with Iraqi Kurdistan Region (KRG) on Wednesday, Iranian consulate general in Erbil announced in a statement.
According to the statement, following the request made by KRG's Sulaymaniyah provincial council, Bashmaq border will re-open today letting all travelers on both sides pass the border and customs operations be done.
Iran had earlier shut its border crossings with Iraqi Kurdistan Region at the request of Baghdad government.
Closed borders comprised of Bashmakh, Parviz-Khan and Haji Omran.
Iraqi Federal Government's demand was in line with the measures taken to control border crossings and Iraqi Kurdistan Region airports.
Despite opposition by the Iraqi Federal Government and regional states, as well as international warnings, the KRG referendum was held on Sep 25 in some northern Iraqi provinces, including Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, Duhok, and some disputed regions like Kirkuk.
