Europe expected to be more politically independent: Velayati
Senior adviser to the Supreme Leader in International Affairs Ali-Akbar Velayati said that European countries and EU are expected to have a more independent policy than before.
In a meeting with High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini on Friday, Velayati said, 'Some parties of the Syrian crisis, with the support of some Western countries and the US, have committed crimes against the Syrian people and government, and have destroyed all the infrastructures of the country for six years; it is necessary that Europe be more sensitive to that.'
The president of Center for Strategic Research at Expediency Discernment Council added that Iran is committed to countering terrorism in Syria and the region and has fought for global peace and stability; otherwise, Europe and other places would have seen the growth of the ominous phenomenon of terrorism.
He also said that Iran and Europe agree on fighting terrorism and extremist Takfiri movements and Iran is ready to cooperate with Europe in fighting terrorism.
Referring to the Saudi crimes in Yemen, he said, 'We witness huge crimes in Yemen, in which peoples' lives are threatened, apart from the bombings, by shortage of food, medicine and basic needs.'
He also urged the global community to counter such actions and support the Yemenis.
