Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi denounced terrorist attack on St. Petersburg metro on Monday in Russia, saying that creating insecurity and massacre of innocent people is the most contemptuous act to achieve political goals.

According to the ministry’s General Diplomacy and Media Center, Qasemi also expressed solidarity with the Russian nation and government as well as the families of the victims of the incident.

Stressing the need for international collective participation to seriously counter terrorism, he said that terrorist attack with any motivation is rejected.

“We believe uprooting the evil and barbaric crimes requires nothing but all the governments and international organizations’ strong resolve, in a word international consensus,” he said.

An explosion near a subway station in St. Petersburg killed several people on Monday afternoon. The train was pulling out of the Sennaya Square station in Russia's second-biggest city.

Ten people were killed and 50 were wounded in the blast.
