Iranian parliament member in a parliamentary session describes reasons, why MPs are looking to investigate Tehran Municipality.
“Mahmoud Sadeghi”, Iranian reformist politician and member of the parliament describing the reasons for conducting investigation on Tehran Municipality, criticized what he called organization’s abnormal reaction and said that our investigations include the way the government–owned properties have been possessed by various individuals, execution of participatory projects and land and property use change.
Regarding the irregular reaction of Tehran Municipality, the parliament member told that unfortunately during these times, there were lobbies and discussions from the organization which made us follow the investigations more firmly, since if everything was OK, and there wasn’t any wrongdoing, they should have welcomed the inquiry.
“Investigating from Tehran Municipality is not politically motivated and does not belong to a particular party. As representatives of the citizens, we need to present transparent reports regarding the municipality’s performance. About this specific case, we have witnessed the organization denying any wrongdoing but after attorney and judicial officials have threatened to act, the municipality has accepted many of the accusations” he added.
Regarding the change of use of properties in Tehran, the legislative official told that the city has turned into a place where it has limited breathing for its citizens and residents.
“This happens at the time when the budget of the municipality is provided from selling these spaces in the city” he emphasized.
At the end he called the investigation an interaction between the parliament and the city management and expressed hope to have results which are in favor of the whole nation.
