Leader: US reneged on JCPOA for extension of expired sanctions
Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on Sunday reprimanded US officials for extension of the expired sanctions, saying that such a conduct runs counter to the nuclear deal which prohibited fresh sanctions.
The Leader made the remarks in a meeting with the Navy commanders and staff to mark the Navy Day November 27.
The Leader made it clear that the United States has undertaken not to impose fresh sanctions in the context of the nuclear deal struck on July 14, 2015, but, the US Congress reneged on commitments to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action by extension of the expired D'Amato sanctions.
'Extension of an expired sanction is no different from imposing new sanctions,' said the Leader.
Ayatollah Khamenei said that Iran with its extensive sea borders and longstanding activities in sea navigation should have a Navy that its power equals the country's dignity and its glorious history.
Iran's presence at international waters to serve peace and security should increase, the Leader stressed.
Elaborating on state affairs and governance, the Supreme Leader said that incomplete works create many problems and regretfully such a problem exists at various departments such as those received astronomical salaries and the issue was not resolved and the questions remained unanswered in the mind of people.
Every work from the beginning should be of strong base and hasty works should be avoided, the Supreme Leader said.
Before the Supreme Leader's remarks Iran's Navy Commander Rear-Admiral Habibollah Sayyari gave a report on the performance of the Navy forces mainly its mighty presence in free waters to serve the international peace and security and campaign against sea piracy, drug amd human trafficking.
