Iran may cancel major Hajj this year
A member of presidium board of National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of Iranian Parliament Mohammad-Hassan Asafari said the country may cancel major Hajj during the current Iranian calendar year which started on March 20, 2016.
He said during a commission meeting, Iranian lawmakers discussed providing security for Hajj performers and stressed that Saudi Arabia has refused to provide the required guarantees.
“Of course, the Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to send Hajj performers to Saudi Arabia in case Saudi Arabia expresses its readiness. However, it seems unlikely that the country is ready, so there is a possibility of cancelling major Hajj.”
He said that Saudi should announce its final view about the issue by May 15.
