Obama Orders Steps to Lift Iran Sanctions Amid Nuke Deal
ILNA: US President Barack Obama on Sunday ordered state, treasury, commerce and energy secretaries to take steps toward lifting Iran sanctions as part of the landmark nuclear deal reached in July.
The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) sets out a 90-day timeline of adopting the agreement following its UN Security Council’s endorsement.
“I hereby direct you to take all necessary steps to give effect to the US commitments with respect to sanctions [against Iran],” the White House said in a press release.
Meanwhile, Iran has notified the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) about the start of provisional implementation of a protocol to the nuclear agreement giving the agency greater access to the information on its nuclear program on Sunday.
On Sunday, Tehran and the P5+1 group, comprising Russia, the United States, China, the United Kingdom, France and Germany, set the clock ticking on the historic nuclear deal. The so-called adoption day means the sides are starting to implement the obligations under the agreement.
