Iran is yet to enter Iraqi soil to counter groups: ex-diplomat
The former representative of Iran to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation has said that the Turkish government has more than 50 military bases in Iraq, while Iran has only carried out remote operations so far.
“The neighboring countries of Iraq are trying to remind and warn the central government of Iraq and the authorities of the Kurdistan region by warning and consulting, and they want these groups not to be allowed to act against the security of the neighboring countries,” Sabah Zangeneh told ILNA.
But sometimes there are neglect from both sides and the groups living in this region take up arms against the neighboring countries, he said, adding that the only way left for the countries is to act against them in an appropriate manner and usually and mostly do their actions remotely.
He added that Turkey simultaneously acts against these groups both remotely and by entering the territory of Iraq, emphasizing that “Ankara has even tried to counter these groups by establishing a base in Iraq, and we have seen that nearly 50 bases have been established by Turkey in Iraq.”
Despite these actions by the Turkish government, the Islamic Republic of Iran has not yet entered the territory of Iraq and is trying to prevent such an action from taking place, he asserted.
The Baghdad government has two ways ahead, either proceed with propaganda or act on its own responsibility and cooperate with neighboring countries whose security is in danger, he noted.
