Iran-Saudi relations tied to JCPOA revival and mid-term elections: Professor
A lecturer in Iranian Studies at the Centre for Arab and Islamic Studies at the Australian National University has said that the relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia from Riyadh’s point of view are completely tied to the JCPOA issue and elections in the U.S.
Al-Sudani's closeness to Maliki, who can be seen as the actor of government formation, to some extent guarantees Tehran's policies and interests in Baghdad, and this is precisely the issue that will make Iran happy, Alam Saleh told ILNA.
Commenting on the Iran-Saudi talks, he said that Riyadh is waiting to see the result of nuclear talks and the upcoming mid-term elections in the U.S.
He added that from Riyadh’s point of view, the relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia are completely tied to the JCPOA issue and elections in the U.S.
Iran and the U.S. have no other solution but to revive the JCPOA, he said, adding that “It is believed that after the mid-term congressional elections, the two sides will reach a weak and short-term agreement, and it remains to be seen how the behavior of the two sides will be after that.”
