Iran, Saudi Arabia FMs to possibly meet in next round of talks: lawmaker
A lawmaker has said that Iran sees realism in the recent stances of Saudi Arabia’s officials that will help the resumption of Tehran-Riyadh relations.
Abolfazl Amouei said in an exclusive interview with ILNA that it is expected that in the next step the foreign ministers of Iran and Saudi Arabia will meet each other in Baghdad at the initiative of the Iraqis.
We believe that Iran and Saudi Arabia are important countries in the region, he said, adding that although we may criticize the stances of Saudi Arabia in some regional and international issues but we don’t consider these criticisms to be an obstacle to the resumption of bilateral relations.
He considered the elevation of negotiations to the political level as a sign of success of the security negotiations between Iran and Saudi Arabia and said that these talks will contribute to security, peace, and stability in the region.
And finally, what is our main challenge in the region is the presence and inference of extra-regional forces that without their presence reaching an understanding at the regional level is possible.
By reviewing the recent positions of Saudi Arabia officials we can see realism in them and we think that this change of approach that has happened in Saudi Arabia is in a positive direction.
