Israel seeking to form security bloc with Arabs through Tiran strait: Expert
An expert on the region has said that Israel wants to increase the cost of shipping for Iran by creating a new military and security bloc with Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries.
Hassan Hanizadeh said in an exclusive interview with ILNA that the presence of Israel on the strait of Tiran can be dangerous for the region's Arabs and the region's security process.
Tiran and Sanafir islands are of great geopolitical importance because they have access to the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea, he said, adding that any actor who establishes a presence on these islands can exert influence on an important strait.
The presence of Israel in the strategic waterways can have important military achievements for Tel Aviv, he added.
He noted that in terms of security as well as shipping security, the presence of Israel on the strait of Tiran can be dangerous for the region's Arabs and the region's security process.
