FM calls for immediate release of ex-Iranian official detained in Sweden
Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has called for the immediate release of Hamid Nouri, the former Iranian official arrested in Sweden under the totally baseless accusations made by the terrorist grouplet of Mujahedin-e-Khalq Organization (MKO).
Amirabdollahian made the remarks during a telephone conversation held on Tuesday afternoon with his Swedish counterpart Ann Linde.
As Amirabdollahian stressed, long-lasting relations between Tehran and Stockholm should not be affected by propaganda or ungrounded accusations and measures taken by a terrorist grouplet whose record of crimes against the Iranian nation is clear.
Reportedly, although Hamid Nouri has been detained in Sweden for about three years and his long 92-session court process has ended, he is still kept in solitary confinement and has not had access to doctors. Also, tough restrictions have been imposed on his contacts with his family.
The rights of Nouri, who was arrested in Sweden under the baseless accusations of MKO, have been violated over and over.
Elsewhere in his talks with the Swedish foreign minister, Amirabdollahian stressed the need to make effort to boost bilateral relations in trade and economic areas.
He also stressed the importance of removing misunderstandings and questions which have caused obstacles in order to strengthen cooperation.
For her part, the Swedish foreign minister said cooperation with Iran is valuable as her country believes that Iran’s role in bringing about peace and stability to the region is effective.
About Nouri, the Swedish foreign minister said her country’s government and judicial system will not be affected by the MKO propaganda.
In a related development, Amirabdollahian met with Nouri's son and said the Foreign Ministry follows up on the case of the ex-official with sensitivity.
