Iran Nuclear Talks May Resume After Biden’s Mideast Trip: Bloomberg
The negotiations for reviving the 2015 nuclear deal and lifting the sanctions against Tehran are likely to resume following US President Joe Biden’s visit to the region this month, Bloomberg reported on Friday.
The New York-based news agency quoted two European diplomats with direct knowledge of this week’s negotiations as saying that, while the latest round of talks in Doha didn’t progress, efforts to resurrect the accord were expected to continue beyond the July deadline suggested by the UN nuclear watchdog.
A third person familiar with the talks said efforts could resume in the Qatari capital following Biden’s trip.
The US president is scheduled to make stops in the occupied West Bank and Saudi Arabia during the July 13 to 16 visit.
The latest round of talks for the revival of the JCPOA and removal of sanctions on Iran were held in Doha on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The US left the JCPOA in 2018. It then returned the sanctions that the accord had lifted.
Since last year, Vienna has been hosting many rounds of talks among the JCPOA’s remaining parties to examine the prospect of the deal’s revival.
