An Iranian member of parliament has said that holding talks between Iran and the U.S. in Qatar took place at the request of Doha.

The role of Qatar in the current negotiations will not be beyond the facilitator, Abolfazl Amouei said, adding that this issue is so important for the Islamic Republic of Iran.

“We accepted Qatar to be hosting the talks due to their willingness to do it and I think a good host is who he is impartial and plays his role as a facilitator,” the member of the foreign policy and national security committee in the parliament added.

He pointed out that the Doha talks aren’t separate from the talks between Iran and the P4+1group of countries, adding that as it has been announced officially, these talks are only a continuation of the Vienna talks.

He also reiterated that Qatar only plays the role of facilitator in these talks. We have bilateral relations in various fields that aren’t on the table of the current talks, he noted.
