Venezuela enjoys more EU support than Iran: Expert
The Iranian former ambassador to Mexico has said that Venezuela has more EU support than Iran which can turn into a challenge and affect the two countries' willingness to build closer ties.
Iran and Venezuela are belonging to the club of countries which have been sanctioned by Washington and this is the most important point that has led to Tehran and Caracas boosting their relations, Mehdi Fakher told ILNA.
Underlining that Venezuela has more EU support than Iran, he said that the more there are economic and sanctions pressures in political relations, the more we can expect to boost political relations.
“Ukraine-Russia war is a new issue. The West's need to replace Russian oil has drawn attention to Iran and Venezuela’s oil and facilities have been considered for them,” he added.
Emphasizing that new relationships have required the U.S. and Europe to put less pressure on Venezuela but this is not the case with Iran, he said that this issue can turn into a challenge and affect the two countries' willingness to converge in the long or short term.
