Permanent Representative of Russia to International Organizations in Vienna Mikhail Ulyanov tweeted on Saturday that “if next week the IAEA BoG adopts the Western resolution on Iran, the prospects of successful completion of the Vienna Talks and restoration of JCPOA will become more elusive.”

Referring to his recent phone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell wrote on his Twitter account on Saturday that “the possibility to strike a deal and return to #JCPOA is shrinking. But we still can do it with an extra effort.”

He added that “as coordinator, I stand ready any time to facilitate a solution to the latest outstanding issues.”

In reaction to Borrell’s tweet, Ulyanov wrote that “if next week the #IAEA BoG adopts the Western resolution on #Iran, the prospects of successful completion of the #ViennaTalks and restoration of #JCPOA will become more elusive.”

He highlighted that “if #EU wants to reach an agreement, it should (instead of a res.) undertake extra diplomatic efforts.”

Earlier on Friday, Amirabdollahian and Borrell discussed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and some other bilateral issues in a phone conversation.

Referring to the determination of the Islamic Republic of Iran to reach a good, strong, and lasting agreement, Amirabdollahian called the recent attempts taken by the US and the three European countries in drafting the IAEA resolution a behavior contrary to diplomacy, as well as hasty and destructive that will make the negotiation process more complicated.
