Iran restores right to vote at the UN
Iran's right to vote at the United Nations was strained for the second year in a row due to the illegal and anti-Iranian US sanctions that led to suspending Iran's right to vote in the organization.
Majid Takht Ravanchi confirmed on Saturday night that Iran's overdue debt had been paid to the United Nations, and as soon as it arrives in New York, Iran's voting rights should be naturally restored at the beginning of this week (Monday).
According to Takht Ravanchi, South Korea, while blocking more than $18 million of Iranian assets forced by US authorities in Washington, has paid Iran's outstanding membership right to the United Nations.
Earlier, Saeed Khatibzadeh, the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, had stated that it is worthwhile for the UN Secretary-General and the Secretariat to consider the special conditions of countries facing illegal sanctions specifically and to help these countries to pay their quotas.
