Gharibabadi censures inaccurate IAEA report
Iran’s permanent ambassador to the international organizations in Vienna decries IAEA for accusing the Islamic Republic of non-cooperation with the organization, calling the IAEA director-general's report beyond the two sides' the agreed terms in the joint statement.
Kazem Gharibabadi made the remarks in a tweet thread on Sunday, addressing a claim that had been made by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)’s Director-General Rafael Grossi in an earlier report.
Grossi had alleged that Iran was failing to fully comply with a joint statement issued by the two sides on September 12 by refusing to allow the agency access to the TESA Karaj Complex, a centrifuge component manufacturing workshop in north-central Iran.
Gharibabadi, however, reminded that during the discussions in Tehran and Vienna that led to the release of the statement, “Iran indicated that since Tessa Karaj Complex is still under security and judicial investigations, equipment related to this Complex is not included for servicing.”
That was the reason that the joint statement specified that the IAEA was to be allowed access to certain “identified equipment.”
Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), said in a report on Sunday night that the Islamic Republic of Iran would allow IAEA inspectors from September 20 to 22 to service surveillance equipment and replace camera memory cards in all necessary locations in Iran except the Tessa complex in Karaj.
