Rouhani: If Biden neglects implementing JCPOA, he will betray Americans' votes
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said if the US President Joe Biden fails to implement Iran's nuclear deal, he will betray Americans' votes who sought changes in policies devised by the former US President Donald Trump against Iran.
Addressing the cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Rouhani noted that though the new US administration claims to have undermined former President Trump's measures and his anti-Iran sanctions, Trump's crimes and economic terrorism measures are still underway.
He also said that Iran has never been after weapons of mass destruction and its nuclear program has been peaceful.
Allegations against Iran are baseless, he said, adding that the Iran nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), is a document highlighting the fact that Iran does not seek nuclear weapons.
Elsewhere in his remarks, he noted that the US sanctions and the outbreak of coronavirus are the two major factors contributing to the economic difficulties Iranian people are facing.
Referring to an analytic report on the impact of sanctions and COVID-19 on Iran's economy, Rouhani said that without these two factors, Iran's oil-free economic growth and oil economy growth would be 4.1% and 3.8% respectively.
He noted that inflation would be 11.5%, the dollar exchange rate would be under 5,000 tomans, investment growth would be 4.7%, and gross domestic product would increase 22%.
He went on to say that the government has spared no efforts for solving issues and overcoming the economic war.
The President said his government never neglected the importance of implementing the JCPOA and lifting sanctions, and has also taken advantage of every single opportunity to that end.
