US makes lifting sanctions conditional on Iran's return to JCPOA obligations
US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan insisted that Washington would not lift sanctions until it is assured of Iran's adherence to its core nuclear obligations.
In an interview with Fox News, Sullivan said talks on reviving the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), in Vienna were constructive, meaning that all issues related to Iran's nuclear program and what is necessary for the United States to rejoin the deal were on the table.
While he would not go into specifics of what the US would demand in exchange for lifting sanctions, he did say that confidence in Iran to live up to commitments was essential.
"What I will say is that the United States is not going to lift sanctions unless we have clarity and confidence that Iran will fully return to compliance with its obligations under the deal," he said, "that it will put a lid on its nuclear program, that it will expand its breakout time, that it will reduce the level of enrichment and the scope of enrichment in its country, and until we have confidence in all of those things the United States is not going to make any concessions at all."
Following the recent terrorist attack at the Natanz facility, Iranian scientists were able to obtain a 60% enriched uranium product at the Shahid Ahmadi Roshan Enrichment Complex in Natanz that was confirmed by the International Atomic Energy Agency too.
Iran has announced that the recent sabotage by the Israelis on the countries' nuclear facilities could not prevent or delay the knowledge of the enrichment that is in hands of the Iranians.
