Iran denies any new agreement on its nuclear program
Iran's ambassador and permanent representative to the Vienna-based international organizations said that the Reuters headline about the IAEA Director-General's remarks and the revival of JCPOA was sly and misleading.
Kazem Gharibabadi stated on Friday night that IAEA Director-General Rafael Grossi has never stated that the revival of JCPOA requires a new agreement.
Gharibabadi announced his meeting with Grossi and pointed out that Grossi had stated that he did not mention the need for a new agreement in an interview with Reuters, and the text of his interview is clear in this regard and his talks were about the agency.
He highlighted that in the interview with Reuters, Grossi said that in order to make the necessary arrangements for the reversibility of Iran's actions in case of the revival of JCPOA, a protocol, understanding, agreement, or document is needed within the Agency.
"Of course, the statement of the IAEA Director General that a document is needed for the Agency, in case of revival of JCPOA, does not necessarily have a technical and legal basis, and the necessary reaction in this regard was made on Thursday," he stressed.
Gharibabadi criticized the atmosphere created by the Western media and stated: "Unfortunately, media outlets such as Reuters are pursuing their own political agenda, thereby violating professional and media principles."
On Thursday, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi was quoted by Reuters as saying that the revival of JCPOA would require the signing of a new agreement.
After the US President Donald Trump quit the deal and reimposed US sanctions, Iran responded by adopting antithetical economic measures under a directive by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei of “Resistive Economy,” and also started to take nuclear countermeasures to retaliate against the US and others’ non-commitment to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the official name of the historic 2015 nuclear deal.
