Syria’s Faisal Mekdad to meet with Zarif in Tehran
Syrian Deputy FM Faisal Mekdad who arrived in Tehran Sunday night heading a political delegation is scheduled to hold talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif today.
The visit of the Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister, Faisal Mekdad, comes at the invitation of the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs, Hossein Jaberi Ansari, and aims at holding Tehran-Damascus joint political committee’s meeting in Tehran.
The formation of the committee to coordinate joint activities was agreed upon during the latest visit of Jaberi Ansari to Damascus in September.
During the meeting with Mekdad, Jaberi Ansari stressed continuous consultation and coordination between the two countries considering the critical circumstances in Syria and the region.
Mekdad and his accompanying delegation were received upon their arrival by a number of senior officials of the Iranian Foreign Ministry and members of the Syrian embassy in Tehran, SANA reported.
During the visit, Mekdad is slated to hold several meetings with senior Iranian officials, focusing on ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two friendly countries in various fields, in addition to exchanging views on regional and international issues of common interest.
