Afghanistan eager to import gas from Iran: Abdullah
“Afghanistan is ready to import gas from Iran,” the head of Afghanistan’s High Council for National Reconciliation (HCNR) Abdullah Abdullah told ILNA.
Speaking in an interview with ILNA news agency correspondent, the former chief executive officer of the Afghan unity government said “Previously, the issue of gas import from Iran has been raised as a necessity and there is readiness on both sides.”
Referring to the Tapi pipeline, he added that the Taliban are still gained control of parts of Afghanistan, therefore, by finding a practical solution, we must be able to implement infrastructure activities.
The Head of Afghanistan’s High Council for National Reconciliation has traveled to Iran after visiting India and Pakistan in an effort to build a consensus on the peace process in his country.
Iran’s Energy Minister Reza Ardakanian said on Monday that Iran and Afghanistan are scheduled to enhance bilateral cooperation in the transportation and energy sectors.
Iranian officials, including President Hassan Rouhani, have stressed the importance of the project in boosting trade ties with neighboring countries, including Afghanistan.
