Buying a property in Turkey has no economic justification; official
“The coronavirus outbreak has affected Iran’s trade with Turkey as Iran’s exports have declined by 90 percent,” the chairman of Iran-Turkey Joint Chamber of Commerce told ILNA.
Mehrdad Saadat said in an exclusive interview with ILNA news agency that unfortunately, this pandemic reduced Iran’s exports to Turkey and there is no other reason for such drop.
Referring to the reopening of the borders between two countries, he added “fortunately after reopening of the borders trade between the two countries has been increasing and the traders are trying to compensate for the four-month drop in the bilateral trade.”
“We are currently witnessing long lines for trucks that are waiting for entering Turkey.”
The Iranian official said that talks with Turkey are underway to ask them to increase working hours of their border checkpoints in order to accelerate the arrival of trucks into Turkey.
He pointed to the main task of the chamber and confirmed that Iran-Turkey Joint Chamber of Commerce must attract investment in Iran, adding that the housing sector in Turkey in the past 15 years has been an alluring market which has had 35 percent profit and comparing to Iran it has no economic justification.
Calling his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday, Iran's President Hassan Rouhani congratulated Eid al-Adha and expressed hope that the two countries could make effective efforts to control the Coronavirus through cooperation and exchange of experience.

Appreciating successful efforts of the Iranian nation and government in the fight against the coronavirus, Erdogan stressed the expansion of cooperation and experience exchange in the path.
Iran’s trade with Turkey totaled $803.59 million during the first five months of 2020 (January-May) to register a decrease of 77.62% compared with the corresponding months of 2019, data released by Turkish Statistical Institute show.
Iran exported $331.67 million worth of goods to Turkey during the five months under review, to see an 87.1% year-on-year drop.
