Afghanistan’s Ghazanfar Bank to open a branch in Chabahar port

Speaking to ILNA news agency, the Iranian official Hossein Salimi said “The Afghan bank requested the establishment of a branch in Chabahar to facilitate trade between Iran and Afghanistan.”

He pointed that the Iranian government has agreed to set up a branch of the foreign bank in Sistan and Baluchestan province; adding “we have some problems in transferring currency and trade with Afghanistan, and the establishment of this branch would be a great help to the trade exchanges between the two countries.”

“Iran can act as a financial channel,” he added.

The head of Iran-Afghanistan Joint Chamber of Commerce confirmed that India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iran would have a stronger trade relationship through this bank.

"Fortunately, the port of Chabahar is exempted from the U.S. sanctions, and with the prosperity of the port, Afghan traders have become very active in this region.”

According to Salimi, the bank would provide service to both Iranian and Afghan companies which are active in bilateral trade between the two nations.

Ghazanfar Bank started off its operation from Kabul, Afghanistan, and is offering key financial services both under conventional and Islamic. Ghazanfar Bank, a full-fledged licensed commercial Bank, commenced its operations in March 2009. The Share Holders of the Bank belongs to one of the leading business groups of Afghanistan.
