“Kazakhstan is among the main buyers of Iran's cement and after the import of this product was banned, our producers lost one of their target markets,” the head of Iran's Export Confederation Mohammad Lahoti told ILNA.

The Iranian official said in an exclusive interview with ILNA news agency that despite a commitment to the World Trade Organization and after the outbreak of the coronavirus, 88 countries have banned its imports, and Kazakhstan was one of them.

“We are pursuing this matter and the Trade Promotion Organization is also trying to resolve this issue through consultation,” he added.

Mohammad Lahoti said that our cargos are exported to Kazakhstan through the borders of Turkmenistan, and this country has made these restrictions more on the transport of goods.

Over 17.5 million tons of clinker and cement were exported from Iran in the past Iranian calendar year.

Abdolreza Sheikhan, head of Iran's Cement Employers Association, reports that this shows a 32% growth compared with the previous year.

"Our main export destinations over the period were Iraq, Kuwait, China, Bangladesh, and India, the littoral states of the Persian Gulf and Central Asian countries”.

In total, last year Iran produced 60.3 million tons of cement and 66 million tons of clinker, showing a 9% and 6.9% rise year on year.
