Iran eyes to Iraqi Kurdistan Region to increase its export
Spokesman of Iranian Oil, Gas and Petrochemical Products Exporters' Union (OPEX) announced that we hope to increase Iran’s export of petrochemical products by using the Kurdish Iraq (Erbil) customs.
Hamid Hosseini made the remarks in an interview with ILNA news agency and said “It was reported that Iran’s export of petrochemical products in past eleven months was 5.38 billion and China with a 23% and Iraq with a 22% share are the biggest trading partner of Iran during this time.”
“Iran export to Iraq was $450.8 million, and we hope to increase our exports by using Iraqi Kurdistan customs to $ 9 billion despite the closure of the Iraqi central government's borders,” he added.
Hosseini pointed to the spread of coronavirus in the world and its impact on the energy market and said “Outbreak of COVID-19 has left severe effects on oil market and downstream industries from two aspects.”
Iran’s oil minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh said that Iran's annual petrochemical output is expected to surpass 100 million tonnes by 2021 despite US sanctions.
China is the top destination for Iran’s petrochemical products, but the UAE purchased $2 billion worth from March 2018 to March 2019, according to official data.
