“Russia does not eager Iran to succeed in the energy field,”a senior energy analyst and former head of Iran's Petroleum Contracts Committee told o ILNA news agency.

Speaking to ILNA economic correspondent, Seyed Mehdi Hosseini pointed to Why Iran has no place in TurkStream pipeline to export gas to Europe, and said: “Russia is counting on Turkey to export gas to Europe and is competing with Iran.”

“Turkey has also started a good game between Iran and Russia, offering the best prices, guaranteeing long-term gas exports, and balancing the two rivals,” an energy analyst added.

He confirmed that on the other side Russia has been seeking to cut gas transit through Ukraine because of recent tension.

“Because of Iran's political situation, many countries are cautious about cooperation with Iran,” Mehdi Hosseini said.

The presidents of Turkey and Russia formally launched the TurkStream pipeline which will carry Russian natural gas to southern Europe through Turkey, part of Moscow's efforts to reduce shipments via Ukraine.

The pipeline project, stretching 930 kilometers (580 miles) across the Black Sea, reinforces strong energy ties between Moscow and Ankara, which have also increased defense cooperation after Turkey bought advanced Russian missile defenses last year.

Russia is building TurkStream in two pipelines, each with an annual capacity of 15.75 bcm. The first pipeline will supply Turkey and the second will extend from Bulgaria to Serbia and Hungary. Bulgaria hopes to be able to make shipments to Serbia by May and build the whole section by year-end.
