Spokesman for Food and Drug Administration (IFDA) Kianoush Jahanpour told ILNA that it is now impossible to confirm that American pharmaceutical companies have obtained permission from the U.S. government to export medicines to Iran.

Speaking to ILNA news agency, the Iranian official said “We welcome any action to provide needed food, medicine and medical supplies for Iranian people.”

Member of the Board at Tehran Chamber of Commerce Alireza Kolahi said on Monday that US administration has allowed a few drug companies to export its products to Iran.

Alireza Kolahi added that the drug companies have also proposed the names of several banks as payment channels and the U.S. government has approved two Iranian banks.

In response, Jahanpour said, we had similar claims from the EU and the US before, but no serious action was taken.

“When the drug is imported to Iran by those companies, such news is confirmed,” Spokesman for Food and Drug Administration added.

Also, early in December, Head of Iran's Food and Drug Administration and Deputy Health Minister Mohammadreza Shanehsaz said that Washington's sanctions and the recent warning issued by the US Treasury Department was meant to be a coup against the Iranian patients, particularly those with special needs.

Last week the U.S. Ambassador in Switzerland Edward McMullen announced that an agreement has been reached with Swiss authorities to allow medicines and food to be sent to Iran through “a humanitarian channel”.

U.S. sanctions have affected the availability of medicines and medical supplies in Iran. However, Washington and Tehran agreed to a prisoner swap recently, which could signal some willingness to reduce tensions.
