Swiss to open special financial channel with Iran
The Swiss government has taken necessary steps to strengthen trade and banking relations with Iran and open up a financial channel between the two countries.
The governor of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) has met with the Swiss ambassador to Tehran, Markus Leitner, on April 19, Official Website of the CBI reported.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran welcomes the efforts of the Swiss government," AbdolNasser Hemmati said. "The promotion of trade with Switzerland is in the interests of both countries."
"The Swiss efforts to open the banking channel between the two sides can be seen as a positive sign to align its international trade and financial policies on the basis of mutual interests, not on the basis of external pressure. This process must be supported and strengthened," the Governor of CBI added.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran, despite the pressure from the United States, is pursuing the development of commercial and banking relations with other countries following its national interests," he said.
Having stressed the intention of Switzerland to strengthen the banking and financial relations with Iran, the Ambassador to Iran reminded that Switzerland has always had proper banking and financial relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran, and that US sanctions should not restrict these banking relations.
The ambassador went on to say that the Swiss government is taking the necessary steps to strengthen trade and banking relations. In his words, opening the banking channel between Iran and Switzerland will increase banking exchanges between the two countries as soon as possible.
